RESUMO

Millions of electric vehicles (EVs) on the road are powered by lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) based on nickel-rich layered oxide (NRLO) cathodes, and they suffer from a limited driving range and safety concerns. Increasing the Ni content is a key way to boost the energy densities of LIBs and alleviate the EV range anxiety, which are, however, compromised by the rapid performance fading. One unique challenge lies in the worsening of the microstructural stability with a rising Ni-content in the cathode. In this review, we focus on the latest advances in the understanding of NLRO microstructures, particularly the microstructural degradation mechanisms, state-of-the-art stabilization strategies, and advanced characterization methods. We first elaborate on the fundamental mechanisms underlying the microstructural failures of NRLOs, including anisotropic lattice evolution, microcracking, and surface degradation, as a result of which other degradation processes, such as electrolyte decomposition and transition metal dissolution, can be severely aggravated. Afterwards, we discuss representative stabilization strategies, including the surface treatment and construction of radial concentration gradients in polycrystalline secondary particles, the fabrication of rod-shaped primary particles, and the development of single-crystal NRLO cathodes. We then introduce emerging microstructural characterization techniques, especially for identification of the particle orientation, dynamic changes, and elemental distributions in NRLO microstructures. Finally, we provide perspectives on the remaining challenges and opportunities for the development of stable NRLO cathodes for the zero-carbon future.

Currently, one of the most serious threats to rubber tree is the tapping panel dryness (TPD) that greatly restricts natural rubber production. Over-tapping or excessive ethephon stimulation is regarded as the main cause of TPD occurrence. Although extensive studies have been carried out, the molecular mechanism underlying TPD remains puzzled. An attempt was made to compare the levels of endogenous hormones and the profiles of transcriptome and proteome between healthy and TPD trees. Results showed that most of endogenous hormones such as jasmonic acid (JA), 1-aminocyclopropanecarboxylic acid (ACC), indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), trans-zeatin (tZ) and salicylic acid (SA) in the barks were significantly altered in TPD-affected rubber trees. Accordingly, multiple hormone-mediated signaling pathways were changed. In total, 731 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 671 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified, of which 80 DEGs were identified as putative transcription factors (TFs). Further analysis revealed that 12 DEGs and five DEPs regulated plant hormone synthesis, and that 16 DEGs and six DEPs were involved in plant hormone signal transduction pathway. Nine DEGs and four DEPs participated in rubber biosynthesis and most DEGs and all the four DEPs were repressed in TPD trees. All these results highlight the potential roles of endogenous hormones, signaling pathways mediated by these hormones and rubber biosynthesis pathway in the defense response of rubber trees to TPD. The present study extends our understanding of the nature and mechanism underlying TPD and provides some candidate genes and proteins related to TPD for further research in the future.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have associated diabetes with reduced shoulder motion, increased pain, and higher postoperative retear risk after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). However, the impact of glycemic control, measured by hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels, on retear and revision rates after ARCR in diabetic patients remains unclear. METHODS: This systematic review was conducted using the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase databases according to the preferred reporting conventions for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Only studies that compared retears and revisions in ARCR patients with documented HbA1c levels between controlled and uncontrolled diabetes groups were included. Relevant data were extracted and analyzed using STATA software. The methodological index for nonrandomized studies was employed to assess the risk of bias in the selected studies. Additionally, heterogeneity tests and sensitivity analyses were conducted to evaluate potential heterogeneity within the samples, and publication bias was also detected. RESULTS: Six studies (4395 patients), including five retrospective cohort studies and one case‒control study, were included. Four of these studies assessed retears involving 253 patients. Lower HbA1c levels, indicating better glycemic control, were significantly associated with reduced retear rates after ARCR in diabetic patients (P = 0.000; odds ratio = 0.242, 95 % confidence interval: 0.128-0.454; I2 = 25 %). For revision evaluations, two studies, with a total of 4142 patients, found no significant difference in rates between controlled and uncontrolled diabetes groups, and no publication bias was detected. CONCLUSION: Following ARCR in diabetic patients, effective glycemic control significantly reduces retear rates without affecting revisions, and maintaining glycemic control in the postoperative period may contribute to rotator cuff healing.

Due to low cost and high energy density, sodium metal batteries (SMBs) have attracted growing interest, with great potential to power future electric vehicles (EVs) and mobile electronics, which require rapid charge/discharge capability. However, the development of high-rate SMBs has been impeded by the sluggish Na+ ion kinetics, particularly at the sodium metal anode (SMA). The high-rate operation severely threatens the SMA stability, due to the unstable solid-electrolyte interface (SEI), the Na dendrite growth, and large volume changes during Na plating-stripping cycles, leading to rapid electrochemical performance degradations. This review surveys key challenges faced by high-rate SMAs, and highlights representative stabilization strategies, including the general modification of SMB components (including the host, Na metal surface, electrolyte, separator, and cathode), and emerging solutions with the development of solid-state SMBs and liquid metal anodes; the working principle, performance, and application of these strategies are elaborated, to reduce the Na nucleation energy barriers and promote Na+ ion transfer kinetics for stable high-rate Na metal anodes. This review will inspire further efforts to stabilize SMAs and other metal (e.g., Li, K, Mg, Zn) anodes, promoting high-rate applications of high-energy metal batteries towards a more sustainable society.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate obesity on the outcome of rotator cuff repair. METHODS: Literatures on the relationship between obesity and outcomes after rotator cuff repair were searched from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China biology medicine(CBM), CNKI, Wanfang and VIP databases from building database to August 1, 2022, and were screened independently by two authors according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Endnote X9 and Excel 2019 were used for literature extraction, management and data entry, and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to evaluate quality of the included literatures. STATA 16.0 and RevMan 5.4 softwares were used to evaluate postoperative retear rate, reoperation rate, complication rate, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, visual analogue scale (VAS), operative time and external rotation angle of shoulder joint pain were analyzed. RESULTS: Totally 13 literatures were included, including 6 retrospective studies, 5 case-control studies, 1 prospective cohort study, and 1 abstract of a study for which the full text was not available, with 85 503 patients (31 973 in obese group and 53 530 in non-obese group). Meta-analysis showed there were statistical differences between two groups in retear rate [OR=2.58, 95%CI(1.23, 5.41), P=0.01], reoperation rate[OR=1.31, 95%CI(1.21, 1.42), P<0.00], complication rate [OR=1.57, 95%CI(1.31, 1.87), P=0.00], ASES score[MD=-3.59, 95%CI(-5.45, -1.74), P=0.00], and VAS[MD=0.24, 95%CI(0.00, 0.49), P=0.05]. While there were no differences between two groups in operative time[MD=6.03, 95%CI(-7.63, 19.69), P=0.39], external rotation angle of shoulder joint[MD=-1.79, 95%CI(-5.30, 1.71), P=0.32]. CONCLUSION: Obesity is associated with higher rates of retear, resurgery, complications, poorer shoulder function and pain after rotator cuff repair.

In order to achieve goat localization to help prevent goats from wandering, we proposed an efficient target localization method based on machine vision. Albas velvet goats from a farm in Ertok Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, were the main objects of study. First, we proposed detecting the goats using a shallow convolutional neural network, ShallowSE, with the channel attention mechanism SENet, the GeLU activation function and layer normalization. Second, we designed three fully connected coordinate regression network models to predict the spatial coordinates of the goats. Finally, the target detection algorithm and the coordinate regression algorithm were combined to localize the flock. We experimentally confirmed the proposed method using our dataset. The proposed algorithm obtained a good detection accuracy and successful localization rate compared to other popular algorithms. The overall number of parameters in the target detection algorithm model was only 4.5 M. The average detection accuracy reached 95.89% and the detection time was only 8.5 ms. The average localization error of the group localization algorithm was only 0.94 m and the localization time was 0.21 s. In conclusion, the method achieved fast and accurate localization, which helped to rationalize the use of grassland resources and to promote the sustainable development of rangelands.

PURPOSE: To compare the clinical outcomes and retear rates after rotator cuff repair (RCR) between delaminated and non-delaminated tears. METHODS: This systematic review was conducted according to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines using the PubMed, Cochrane Library, the Web of Science and Embase databases. Only articles on arthroscopic RCR with clinical outcome scores and data on the number of rotator cuff retears and complete healing were included. This study's relevant data were extracted and statistically analyzed. The methodological index for nonrandomized studies was used to assess the risk of bias in the included studies. After conducting a heterogeneity test and sensitivity analysis to determine whether the samples were heterogeneous, the study also detected publication bias. A sub-group test was used to evaluate the influences of the imaging follow-up period on retear rates. RESULTS: Ten eligible articles were identified with 2,061 patients (925 in the delaminated group and 1,136 in the non-delaminated group). The meta-analysis demonstrated that delamination was significantly associated with higher retear rates (P = 0.026; odds ratio = 1.873, 95% confidence interval 1.079-3.252; I2 = 51.6%) with an imaging follow-up period of > 1 year and lower rates of complete healing (P = 0.036; odds ratio = 0.659, 95% confidence interval 0.446-0.973; I2 = 9.0%) in patients after rotator cuff repair. However, no significant differences were observed between the two groups based on American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score, Constant score, visual analog scale score, external rotation, internal rotation, or forward elevation. CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis found that delamination was significantly associated with higher retear rates with imaging follow-up period of > 1 year, and lower rates of complete healing. In addition, the preoperative and postoperative clinical scores and shoulder joint range of motion were similar between patients with delaminated and non-delaminated tears. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Sulfatase 1 (SULF1) can regulate the binding of numerous signaling molecules by removing 6-O-sulfate from heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) to affect numerous physiological and pathological processes. Our research aimed to investigate the effect of the SULF1-mediated VEGFR2/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway on tumorigenesis and development of cervical cancer (CC). METHODS: The expression and prognostic values of SULF1 in patients with CC were analyzed through bioinformatics analysis, RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, and western blot assays. The function and regulatory mechanism of SULF1 in proliferation, migration, and invasion of cervical cancer cells were examined through lentivirus transduction, CCK8, flow cytometry analysis, plate colony formation assay, scratch assay, transwell assay, western blot, VEGFR2 inhibitor (Ki8751), and mouse models. RESULTS: SULF1 expression was significantly upregulated in CC tissues, which was significantly associated with poor prognosis of patients with CC. In vitro, the upregulation of SULF1 expression in cervical cancer HeLa cells promoted cell proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion while inhibiting apoptosis. Conversely, the downregulation of SULF1 expression had the opposite effect. In vivo, the upregulation of SULF1 expression resulted in a significant increase in both tumor growth and angiogenesis, while its downregulation had the opposite effect. Furthermore, western blot detection and cell function rescue assay confirmed that the upregulation of SULF1 in HeLa cells promoted the tumorigenic behaviors of cancer cells by activating the VEGFR2/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: SULF1 plays an oncogenic role in the tumorigenesis and development of CC, indicating its potential as a novel molecular target for gene-targeted therapy in patients with CC.

BACKGROUND: Obesity influences the outcomes of orthopedic surgeries such as total knee arthroplasty and spinal surgery. However, the effect of obesity on the outcomes of rotator cuff repair is unknown. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the effect of obesity on rotator cuff repair outcomes. METHODS: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched to identify relevant studies published from their inception till July 2022. Two reviewers independently screened titles and abstracts using the specified criteria. Articles were included if they indicated the effect of obesity on rotator cuff repair and the related outcomes after surgery. Review Manager 5.4.1 software was used to perform statistical analysis. RESULTS: Thirteen articles involving 85,497 patients were included. Obese patients had higher retear rates than nonobese patients (odds ratio [OR] 2.58, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.23-5.41, P = .01), lower American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores (mean difference [MD]: -3.59, 95% CI: -5.45 to [-1.74]; P = .0001), higher visual analog scale for pain (mean difference: 0.73, 95% CI: 0.29-1.17; P = .001), higher reoperation rates (OR 1.31, 95% CI 1.21-1.42, P < .00001), and higher rates of complications (OR 1.57, 95% CI 1.31-1.87, P = .000). Obesity did not affect the duration of surgery (MD: 6.03, 95% CI: -7.63 to 19.69; P = .39) or external rotation of the shoulder (MD: -1.79, 95% CI: -5.30 to 1.72; P = .32). CONCLUSION: Obesity is a significant risk factor for retear and reoperation after rotator cuff repair. Furthermore, obesity increases the risk of postoperative complications and leads to lower postoperative American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores and higher shoulder visual analog scale for pain.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Vascular remodeling is a common pathological basis for cardiovascular diseases. Although both immune and non-immune cells have been suggested to contribute to this process, the complex cellular heterogeneity and intercellular interactions remain largely uncharacterized. METHODS AND RESULTS: In this study, we simulated early and late vascular remodeling by ligating the rat carotid artery for 1 week and 4 weeks, respectively. Using single-cell RNA-sequencing, we characterized gene expression signatures and driver signals of major cell types involved in vascular remodeling. Focused analysis revealed a novel sub-population of Selenbp1hi smooth muscle cells (SMCs) associated with vascular remodeling. Results of intercellular communication analyses predicted several ligand-receptor pairs between immune cells with SMCs and endothelial cells (ECs), implicating SMCs apoptosis and repair, ECs aging and inflammatory responses. CONCLUSIONS: We present a comprehensive single-cell atlas of vascular cells in early and late stages of ligated rat carotid artery, providing valuable insights into the understanding of the initiation and progression of vascular remodeling.

RESUMO

The shoulder joint is the most flexible joint in the body with the largest range of motion, and the movement pattern is more complex. Accurate capture of three-dimensional motion data of the shoulder joint is crucial for biomechanical evaluation. Optical motion capture systems offer a non-invasive and radiation-free method to capture shoulder joint motion data during complex movements, enabling further biomechanical analysis of the shoulder joint. This review provides a comprehensive overview of optical motion capture technology in the context of shoulder joint movement, including measurement principles, data processing methods to reduce artifacts from skin and soft tissues, factors influencing measurement results, and applications in shoulder joint disorders.

Gastric-type endocervical adenocarcinoma (G-EAC) is a rare special type of cervical mucinous adenocarcinomas, and it is reported the incidence is unrelated to human papilloma virus infection. We report a rare case of G-EAC in stumps of duplicated cervices in a 49-year-old female patient. The woman complained of post-coital bleeding. She had a didelphic uterus with a duplex cervix, and had undergone subtotal hysterectomy 16 years ago. Gynecological examination revealed a normal-appearing right cervix, but the non-dominant side of the left cervix, which was buried and covered by the side wall of the left vagina, was difficult to view. After exposing, the left side cervix presented a mature appearance which was smaller than a normal cervix. Her serum carbohydrate antigen-19-9 levels was 112.59 U/ml. The right cervix's cytology was normal, whereas the left cervix had unusual glandular epithelial cells. HPV testing on both cervical smears was negative. Adenocarcinoma was identified at 3, 6, 12 o'clock at the right cervix in a colposcopy-directed punch biopsy, while no abnormality was found in the biopsy of the left cervix, nor in the curettage of the double cervices. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed two cervical canals, with a 1.9cm×1.6cm mass inside the left cervix, and the left wall of the right cervix may be involved by the tumor of the left cervix. After much deliberation, we considered that the patient had adenocarcinoma of the left cervix stage IB1. Then, the patient underwent radical cervical resection with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and bilateral pelvic lymphadenectomy. Her final histopathology indicated G-EAC of the duplicated cervices. After surgery, she received concurrent chemoradiation. Currently, 29 months after the final chemotherapy was administered, the patient remains healthy. Because G-EAC with duplicated cervices is an uncommon cunning tumor with a bad prognosis, early identification and therapy are recommended to enhance the prognosis. The comprehensive evaluation of symptoms and gynecological examination with cervical cytology, colposcopy-directed punch biopsy, endocervical curettage and MRI examine together may assist in determining an accurate preoperative diagnosis.

Purpose: Fatty infiltration (FI) of the rotator cuff muscles occurs after rotator cuff tears (RCTs), which may affect the outcome of the repair procedure. This study aimed to determine the relationship between preoperative FI and the rate of re-tear and functional outcomes after rotator cuff repair. Methods: Computerized databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library database were searched for studies published from the inception date to January 2022. Two reviewers independently screened the titles and abstracts using prespecified criteria. Articles were included if they clearly stated the effect of varying degrees of FI on the outcome after shoulder cuff repair. Comparison was performed by different degrees of FI analysis: no FI is grade 0-1, FI is grade 2 and above. Statistical analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.4.1 software. Results: A total of 16 articles involving 1383 patients from 8 countries were included. The follow-up period ranged from 8 to 121 months. In terms of re-tear rate: patients with preoperative FI had significantly higher rates of re-tear compared with patients without FI (OR 4.60, 95% CI 2.22-9.54, p < 0.0001), supraspinatus FI VS no FI (OR 2.06, 95% CI 1.00-4.24, p = 0.05), infraspinatus FI VS no FI (OR 2.42, 95% CI 1.19-4.91, p = 0.01). In terms of functional scoring: patients without FI had higher postoperative Constant-Murley (Constant) scores than those with FI (MD - 5.06, 95% CI - 9.40 to - 0.72, p = 0.02), there was no clear evidence that preoperative FI was related to postoperative American Society of shoulder and elbow physicians scores and the University of California at Los Angeles scores and range of motion. Conclusion: FI after RCTs significantly increases the risk of postoperative re-tear and leads to worse functional scores, especially FI of the infraspinatus muscle. PURPOSE: Sulfated galactofucan (SWZ-4), which was extracted from Sargassum thunbergii, has recently been reported to show anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. The present study aimed to evaluate whether SWZ-4 attenuates atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E-knockout (ApoE-KO) mice by suppressing the inflammatory response through the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway. METHODS: Male ApoE-KO mice were fed with a high-fat diet for 16 weeks and intraperitoneally injected with SWZ-4. RAW246.7 cells were treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and SWZ-4. Atherosclerotic lesions were measured by Sudan IV and oil red O staining. Serum lipid profiles, inflammatory cytokines, and mRNA and protein expression levels were evaluated. RESULTS: SWZ-4 decreased serum TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1 levels, but did not reduce blood lipid profiles. SWZ-4 downregulated the mRNA and protein expression of TLR4 and MyD88, reduced the phosphorylation of p65, and attenuated atherosclerosis in the ApoE-KO mice (p < 0.01). In LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, SWZ-4 inhibited proinflammatory cytokine production and the mRNA expression of TLR4, MyD88, and p65 and reduced the protein expression of TLR4 and MyD88 and the phosphorylation of p65 (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION: These results suggest that SWZ-4 may exert an anti-inflammatory effect on ApoE-KO atherosclerotic mice by inhibiting the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway in macrophages and therefore may be a treatment for atherosclerosis.

Lactiplantibacillus plantarum is a kind of extensively utilized probiotic species, which plays a critical role in the prevention of pathogenic bacteria and development of functional probiotics. Our group previously isolated one Lactiplantibacillus from Jiang Shui, a traditional Chinese fermented vegetable, which remarkably inhibited the growth of Aspergillus flavus. Herein, the safety of this isolate was assessed to ensure its application feasibility in food industry. Firstly, the phenotypic analyses including tolerance to low pH and bile salt, aggregation ability, and hemolytic activity detection, indicated the isolate could survive and colonize in the gastrointestinal tract, without hemolysin activity. The susceptibilities of the isolate to eight antibiotics and the absence of most resistance genes were demonstrated by agar disk diffusion and PCR, respectively. Furthermore, no mortality or toxicity was observed in mice by in vivo tests using gross autopsy, hematology, serum biochemistry, and HE-staining. Taken together, this study demonstrated the safety of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum WYH as a probiotic strain in terms of phenotypic analyses, absence of antimicrobial resistance and toxin-related genes, as well as mice toxicity test, while supported the prospect of applying isolate in suppression of fungal growth and mycotoxin biosynthesis.

Bougainvillea glabra is one of the most popular ornamental and landscaping plants planted in tropical and subtropical regions. The brightly colored bracts, long florescence and strong stress resistance make B. glabra perfect ornamental horticulture plant. Bougainvillea plants have been frequently hybridized, resulting in more than 400 varieties. To investigate the chloroplast genome will help us to understand the biological diversity and stress resistance of Bougainvillea plants better. Here, we report the complete chloroplast genome of B. glabra, which is 154,542 bp in length, including a large single copy (LSC) region of 85,695 bp and a small single copy (SSC) region of 18,077 bp, separated by a pair of identical inverted repeat regions (IRs) of 25,385 bp each. A total of 128 genes were identified, including 83 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on 12 chloroplast genomes showed that B. glabra, accompanied with its sister species B. spectabilis, formed a base clade in Nyctaginaceae which was close to Pisonia aculeata. This study will be helpful for better understanding of the genetic diversity and stress resistance of Bougainvillea plants.

RESUMO

COVID-19 has spread throughout the world; various forecast models have been used to predict the development of the pandemic. The number of new cases from the outbreak to zero has gone through a complete cycle in Hubei, China, on lockdown over coronavirus. So, we created the time series ARIMA models for new cases and new deaths daily during this period. Moreover, these models have been used in Italy, which has the same population conditions and on lockdown as Hubei, in order to predict the epidemic in Italy in the next ten days and provide a theoretical basis for the development of pandemics in some countries in the future.
